Updates on Temporary Resident Measures for Iranians in Canada

In Canada, special measures have been extended for Iranian temporary residents to support their ability to work and study while instability persists in Iran.

These temporary measures are available to those who arrived in Canada on or before February 28, 2025, and will remain in effect until February 28, 2026. From March 1, 2025, Iranian nationals with valid temporary resident status can apply for work permits, extensions, or initial study permits.

However, those wishing to extend their stay as visitors or study permit holders must follow the standard application process and pay regular fees. Additionally, Canadian citizens and permanent residents residing in Iran will no longer qualify for fee exemptions when replacing travel documents or citizenship certificates as of March 1, 2025.

They can still benefit from processing fee exemptions if they applied before February 28, 2025. Standard processing fees will apply for Canadian travel documents, citizenship certificates, and permanent resident travel documents for those applying after this date.
