Minister Marc Miller has announced an increase in the number of applications accepted for processing under the temporary special measures for Palestinian extended family in Gaza, from 1,000 to 5,000.
This decision comes in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the significant interest expressed by people in reuniting with their extended family in Canada. The Minister emphasized that while movement out of Gaza is currently not possible, the situation may change at any time, and Canada wants to be prepared to assist more people as the situation evolves.
The focus remains on keeping families together, and Canada is working with local authorities, as well as partners like Israel and Egypt, to facilitate the exit of extended family members and advocate for their safety.
