Empowering racialized women by expanding employment opportunities

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced $1.1 million in support of the Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot (the Pilot).

The Pilot started in 2018 to help racialized women establish themselves in Canada by finding professional jobs and enhancing their skills. The Government of Canada  understands the unique challenges faced by racialized women in finding employment. To help address these challenges and create more opportunities for racialized newcomer women, the Government has announced that the YWCA of Metro Vancouver will receive  $1.1 million over two years, under the  Pilot, to support their Tech Connect program, which assists international trained newcomer women with IT background in the Greater Vancouver Area.

By expanding funds to programs like Tech Connect, more racialized newcomer women through may benefit in their career advancement Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marie-France Lalonde says “Racialized newcomer women face significant challenges in entering the workforce. Programs like Tech Connect are taking important steps to combat gender- and race-based discrimination, giving women important opportunities to reach their fullest potential. I’m proud that the Government of Canada can be a partner in this work.”
