The situation in Lebanon is currently volatile and unpredictable due to recent events in Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.
Canadians, permanent residents, and their family members are advised to follow travel advice for Lebanon and leave while commercial flights are still available. The focus is on assisting Canadians and permanent residents in obtaining the necessary travel documents and keeping families together. Efforts are being made to monitor the situation and tailor the response to meet the unique needs of those requiring support.
For Canadian citizens, a Canadian passport is required to travel to Canada. It is important to prepare the necessary documents, forms, and photos before applying for a passport. Once ready, an appointment should be booked to submit the passport application in person at the Embassy of Canada in Beirut, including proof of payment and passport photos. Permanent residents of Canada require a permanent resident card to travel to Canada. Those without a valid permanent resident card must apply for a permanent resident travel document. Immediate family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are not citizens or permanent residents themselves will need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada.
Applications for these should be completed as soon as possible, with the option to provide biometrics at the visa application center in Beirut. It is recommended that Canadians in Lebanon sign up with the Registration of Canadians Abroad (ROCA) service to receive important updates as the situation evolves. Those who have already registered should review their information to ensure accuracy and currency.
