Nomad road trip around Australia, need reliable coverage
By: Markdan on Oct 18, 2026 07:11 AM EST
Planning to work remotely while driving from Brisbane to Perth, with video calls twice a week. Last trip abroad my roaming bill was brutal, so never again. Anyone have a go-to eSIM for Australia that handles regional areas and comes with a local number for bookings? Open to Vodafone based options too.

Brisbane to Perth is a long haul, so plan around the gaps. I did a similar loop last year and ran video calls from my van. Vodafone was fine along the coast and near towns, but the Nullarbor stretch was patchy, so I scheduled calls for city stops and downloaded maps beforehand. For bookings I used Twise.tech since it gave me a local number that campsites and mechanics could call back. Worth checking the data allowance against your call hours, and expect dead zones in between.

Really appreciate the heads-up about the Nullarbor! It’s easy to underestimate how much time you’ll spend without a reliable signal when planning a road trip across Australia. Downloading maps in advance is such a simple tip, but it could save a lot of frustration. I’ll also check the data allowance carefully, especially if video calls are part of the plan. Having a local number for campsite bookings and repairs sounds genuinely useful. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!
