Kitchen and bathroom renovation
By: Brooks Monroe on Mar 02, 2026 05:27 AM EST
I'm planning a kitchen and bathroom renovation, but I have absolutely no idea where to start. Which work should I do first—removing old tiles or replacing plumbing fixtures? And does it make sense to hire one specialist for the entire project, or is it better to hire separate professionals for the bathroom and kitchen? Has anyone done this kind of renovation before, and how did you organize it?

First, it's worth addressing all hidden utilities—pipes, electrical, plumbing—to avoid having to redo the tiling later. After that, the old finishes are removed and the surfaces are prepared.

I went through a kitchen and bathroom renovation once, and the best first step was dealing with anything hidden behind the walls. Plumbing and electrical came before tiles, and that saved a lot of stress later. After that, demo felt much easier because the foundation was handled. If one contractor is organized and experienced, having one person manage the whole project can make life simpler. If not, separate specialists can work well with a clear plan. I learned renovations test patience like nothing else. I had the bed bath and beyond phone number saved while choosing finishing touches and pieces.
