How much $ to rent in Canada?
By: Barry1974 on Feb 11, 2019 05:12 PM EST
Hi all. I have heard that housing in Canada’s big cities is very expensive, so I want to rent an apartment until I can afford to relocate (hopefully with my family too). How much per month does it cost on average to live in a big city, close to downtown? I plan on living in Toronto as it's very close to where I'll be working once I get my work permit.

Cost of living including cost of housing can be expensive and really is location dependent. Toronto is one of the more costly cities to live in, but sometimes you can find great deals. I'm not in Toronto, myself, but one great way to find out is to join different groups where you can get a good idea of pricing in particular areas. Facebook groups are a great way to find out....even Kijiji.ca is a good source, though you need to be wary, as you would with craigslist. In my area, I belonged to several groups....so look for groups called similar to Toronto rentals, Toronto housing rentals, etc. Join many groups and keep an eye on what is being posted for cost in the areas you are looking. You should quickly get an idea of the average costs, and you can contact landlords from those pages.
