Download story button missing???
By: Charlie Jack on Sep 06, 2025 12:30 PM EST
I recently updated my iPhone and now Instagram has removed the "Download" button from my stories. I used to be able to take or edit a photo in a story and download it by clicking the three dots at the top (without posting to the story), but now it's gone. Is this normal? Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I don't want to post and then delete it š

This is the situation many people have after iOS and Instagram updates. This is normal, they periodically remove or change functions. But there are still options. You can save photos/videos via a built-in screenshot or screen recording, and if you need the original version without compression, try third-party services. There you can save a story without publishing, in good quality.

The Download button for stories sometimes disappears after updates. Now there is no direct way to save stories without publishing, but there are workarounds. You can create a story, take a photo or edit it, and then use the built-in screenshot or screen recording function. It works almost the same. There are also third-party services and apps, such as instagram story download that allow you to save your own or other people's stories without fear of losing your account. This approach is convenient for those who like to collect content or save ideas without publishing them right away. Saving stories has become a little more difficult, but with the right tools, everything is real and fast.
