AMD GPU Ray Tracing Issue in UE4 and the Accusations Toward Nvidia
By: Frendy on Aug 30, 2025 06:49 AM EST
I’ve seen reports about AMD GPUs struggling with ray tracing in Unreal Engine 4, with stuttering and frame drops when it’s enabled. Some discussions suggest that Nvidia’s RTX implementation in UE4 might be part of the reason.
Why is Nvidia being brought into this? Is it only a driver issue on AMD’s side or something related to the engine?

Some AMD GPUs are showing stuttering and frame drops in Unreal Engine 4 when ray tracing is enabled, which points to a possible ray tracing issue on AMD’s side rather than anything specific to Nvidia. It seems partly tied to driver optimization and how UE4 handles the workload.
