Vital documents of Canadians destroyed by Fiona will be replaced for free

Canada is continuing to provide the support to people affected by Hurricane Fiona during the challenging time.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that it is waiving fees for those who need to replace their important documents that were destroyed due to Hurricane Fiona last year. Documents such as Canadian passports, permanent resident cards and Canadian citizenship certificates will be replaced for free. These replaced documents will have the same expiry date as the original ones.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser says ‘Waiving fees and extending deadlines for vital documents is just one small effort on our part, it is our hope that it will help ease the burden and allow those affected to focus on the more important task of rebuilding their lives and communities. Our federal government is committed to doing everything we can to assist in this difficult time.”

The special measures will take effect retroactively from September 24, 2022 and will continue until further notice.
