Temporary end to 20-hour cap on International Student Off-Campus Work Hours Extends Until December 31st, 2023

Students working off campus earned a potentially lucrative reprieve on the number of hours they can work off-campus with the introduction of new temporary measures to lift the 20-hour work cap.

International students studying at approved Canadian academic institutions can now work off-campus for unlimited hours. Students can also hold more than one job with combined hours exceeding 20 hours per week. The temporary lifting of the 20-hour off-campus work cap is in effect from November 15th, 2022, to December 31st, 2023, and applies to applicants whose application was received on or before October 7th, 2022.

In order to benefit from extended working hours, international students must have an active study permit with off-campus work authorization and be enrolled in full-time studies or a student studying part-time in their final semester at a Canadian academic institution. In addition, students must live in Canada or plan to arrive before December 31st, 2023. As before, students cannot work after their studies begin; however, they can embrace that the permit allows more freedom to work and earn while studying.
