Current COVID Situation and Canadian Health Statistics.

Today, 90.06% of the Canadian population older than 12 has received two vaccinations against COVID-19.

Hospitals and care centres have performed 64,928,884 tests, and data shows that there have been 44,992 deaths due to COVID since the onset of the pandemic. Those figures relate to 1,172 deaths per one million people in Canada.

Increased group immunity and high vaccination rates led experts to make the decision to remove current COVID-19 restrictions. In addition, evidence of lower hospitalization rates and low death rates contributed to the lifting of COVID-19 safety measures.

According to Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, “Thanks to Canadians who have rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated, we have reached the point where we can safely lift the sanitary measures at the border. However, we expect COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses to continue to circulate over the cold months. So, I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses and exercising individual public health measures. I also thank the dedicated public health officers and frontline staff at our land borders and airports who have worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of people in Canada for the last two years.” - The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health

Canada has been under COVID-19 restrictions to decrease the spread of the virus since February 3rd, 2020, with 80 Emergency OICs put into place under the Quarantine Act. These extreme measures have worked.

Many Canadians and travellers to Canada are relieved to reunite with family and friends whom they have not seen since the start of the pandemic. The Canadian Government is commended for the steps it has taken from the first days of the COVID-19 breakout to reduce the impact of this deadly virus on Canadians and protect its borders from variants entering via its borders.

Canada continues to monitor the risk of COVID by using the appropriate monitoring tools, such as wastewater testing and hospitalization data. Ongoing Preventative Measures With the flu season approaching, Canadians and travellers should remain aware that Canada isn’t entirely free of COVID. There is a possibility of resurgence; however, the risk of COVID-19 has sufficiently reduced thanks to high vaccination rates and other preventative measures.

In the third year since 2019, these measures can now loosen. “Canada’s travel measures successfully mitigated the full impact of COVID-19 for travellers and workers in the transportation sector and helped keep communities safe. Thanks to Canadians who rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated, we are able to take this great step towards easing measures and returning to normal.” Says Honourable Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport Vaccine boosters and high-quality masks remain strongly recommended to travellers in Canada and abroad on cruise ships; however, they will no longer be obligatory. Agents at entry points request that passengers experiencing symptoms of illness inform them. After an assessment, some may require quarantine.

Some guidelines, such as handwashing and staying home if you are feeling sick, remain in place to protect the health of travellers and crew on planes, cruise ships, buses, and trains. In addition, updates and the possibility of new features will be added to the ArriveCAN app will give travellers access to up-to-date information and continue to expedite travel and simplify border crossing. COVID-19 remains listed a communicable disease in the Quarantine Act and Individuals are reminded not to travel if they experience symptoms of COVID-19.
