New Canadian Refugee Claim eApp

On Sep 13, 2022 the Government of Canada introduced a new online asylum application, eAPP, to improve client services and expedite refugee claim processing for claimants already in Canada

This new platform is the primary tool for in-Canada refugee claims and replaces the old electronic refugee claim mechanism.

The Canadian Refugee Claim eAPP allows immigration officers to dialogue directly with refugee claimants and their representatives.

Claimants can also submit documents for themselves, and their family members living in Canada, as well as track their application status.
Once a claimant starts the online asylum application process in the eAPP, the claimant has 90 days to complete and submit their claim. Canadian privacy laws require the deletion of unsubmitted, saved claims after 90 days.
Claimants requiring accommodations can submit on paper.

Claims started before the introduction of the eAPP, September 12, 2022, or earlier, can still be submitted using the old method until December 31, 2022.

The new Canadian Refugee Claim eApp is part of the Canadian Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Canada’s immigration system, reduce application backlogs by adding 1,250 new workers, and ultimately ensure that our immigration system works for all, including refugee claimants.
