New details of the government’s plan to crack down on unauthorized immigration consultants were recently released, following their initial Budget 2019 announcement.
The proposed regulatory body — the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants — will be able to follow through on complaints about ethical breaches, including posting names of consultants under investigation, stopping the practice of unlawful ones, and issuing fines and other penalties for those that don’t break the law but still commit ethical breaches.
It will also set up a tiered qualification system to license new consultants and a compensation fund for newcomers who have been affected by fraudulent consultants.
