Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) launched a new website tool on August 11 as part of its digitization process to allow applicants to apply for Canadian citizenship online.

The tool has been tested since late 2020 and IRCC is opening access in this phase to applicants who are 18 and over who meet specific criteria such as applying as an individual and applying without the services of a representative.

IRCC plans to expand access to the online application process later this year to family groups and minors. Plans for authorized representatives to apply on behalf of their clients are underway for 2022.
