Francophone Immigrants Outside Quebec Receive a Warm Welcome

Communities outside of Quebec welcome the thousands of French-speaking immigrants to join the almost eight million native French speakers already in Canada.

While Quebec is a traditional French province, outside of Quebec, New Brunswick is home to a Francophone population comprising one-third of the people. In Manitoba and Ontario, native French speakers make up 4% of the total population. In balance, French immigrants can feel at home in French-speaking communities from coast to coast. Since French is our second official language, language connections are found in every province.

As more French speakers enter Canada, settlement programs support integration into growing communities outside of traditionally French-speaking Quebec. For example, francophone newcomers can access information and support in setting up housing, bank cards and transit cards. Other settlement programs are designed to foster inclusivity with free access to LINC English language courses and French community connections that ensure healthy, well-rounded integration. Recipients can attest that the result of these programs is a thriving and self-confident population of Francophones in Canada.
