Canadians Celebrate Citizenship Week

Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser celebrates citizenship week by attending citizenship ceremonies across Canada.

Becoming a Canadian citizen is a momentous occasion, marking the final step in the immigration journey. Citizenship ceremonies provide the opportunity to reflect on the significance of citizenship, the rights it affords, and the responsibility it bears.

This year, Citizenship Week runs from May 22 to May 28, 2023. Minister Fraser will attend citizenship ceremonies in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Vancouver, as Canada welcomes thousands of new Canadians.

Minister Fraser says, “It is a great honour to participate in welcoming new members to our Canadian family. This week has given me the chance to reflect on everything that being Canadian means—the freedom to live as our authentic selves, the connection to our natural world, and the opportunity to reach our full potential no matter where we came from.”

Everyone in Canada is invited to celebrate Citizenship Week by attending citizenship ceremonies taking place across the country. Canada is proud to have welcomed 85,000 new Canadians this year and is looking forward to welcoming thousands more.
