Canadian and American Governments Reach Agreement on Afghan Refugees

Canada has reached an agreement with the United States to resettle up to 5,000 Afghan refugees who were evacuated last month by the United States.

These refugees will be part of Canada’s previously announced plans to resettle up to 20,000 vulnerable Afghan nationals, including human rights advocates, LGBTI persons, and journalists and will be required to meet all eligibility and admissibility requirements.

Canada recently completed its own evacuation efforts in August, transporting nearly 4,000 people, the majority of whom were Afghan refugees, to safety.
