Canada’s Immigration Support for Sudanese Nationals

Canada has introduced new immigration measures to support Sudanese temporary residents and waive the fees for family members.

The government of Canada continues to stand with Sudanese nationals and help them attain peace. The country is extending its support for the safety of people who are being affected due to the ongoing violence in Sudan, including families of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who have been forced to flee their homes.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently announced new immigration measures to help Sudanese temporary residents who are currently residing in Canada and are unable to return because of the unstable situation in their country. As per the new measures, Sudanese nationals in Canada can apply for an extension of their status in Canada and between temporary streams to continue working, studying, or visiting.

The Government will waive temporary residence application fees for foreign nationals who fled Sudan with their Canadian family members, including Canadian citizens and permanent residents. They can also apply for an open work permit, study permit or permanent residence before July 15, 2023, if they wish to stay in Canada permanently. All applications will be free of charge.
